What is the online social networking and its social roles?

Online social networking, or using web based services to connect and interact with people about shared activities or interests, can be a great way to pursue interests, establish and enhance existing friendships, play games, and share ideas.
In some ways, online networking is much like offline networking-the social skills you know from the offline world are still helpful. However, connecting by websites and emails makes everything closer, faster, easier… anytime and anywhere.
I would like to investigate further about online social networking because of its benefits. As you know, Online social networks are becoming a true growth point of the internet. As individuals constantly desire to interact with each other both in business and in personal contacts, the ability for the internet to deliver to this networking capability grows stronger and stronger.
I have found that online social networking can provide a valuable way for people to connect, share interests and stay in touch across the miles. It is the ultimate networking tool. I can keep in touch with old friends and make new ones, share information about events and even help one another with homework with online social networking tools or collaborating at work such as connecting people who work for the same company, or in the same industry.
I can use social networking for marketing purposes: to advertise new products and deals, to stay in touch with customers or to follow other people who might have items or offerings I could use. Social networking can be a great forum for viral marketing, but it's important to be clear that you're marketing a product or the message won't get through.
There are some excellent sites available to anyone interested in becoming part of the online social networking community of the internet:
